Job Description

Requirements

Education
  • LL. B (Honors) and LL M from a UGC-approved or a recognized foreign university.

  • Enrollment as an advocate with the Bangladesh Bar Council.

  • Candidates with Bar-at-Law or PhD in Law will be given preference.

  • No third division/class in academic records.

Experience
  • At least 10 years
  • The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s):
    Banks
Additional Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in legal practice, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a bank, financial institution in legal Department/Division.

  • In-depth knowledge of banking laws, financial regulations, Shariah-compliant banking principles, investment recovery mechanisms, and regulatory compliance frameworks.

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex legal matters, including litigation, contract enforcement, and regulatory affairs.

  • Proven track record of successfully handling legal disputes and achieving favorable outcomes, particularly in the recovery of non-performing loans (NPLs).

Global Islami Bank PLC, one of the most promising Shariah-compliant banks in Bangladesh, is expanding its footprint nationwide. With a focus on innovation, compliance, and professional growth, the Bank is now looking to appoint a capable and visionary Chief Legal Officer (CLO) to lead its legal division. This position calls for a leader with sound legal knowledge and the ability to guide the organization through complex regulatory landscapes.

Rank: Senior Vice President (SVP)/ Vice President (VP) – based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to the Board of Directors and Senior Management, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, including Islamic banking regulations and guidelines.

  • Oversee the Bank’s legal affairs, including litigation, contract management, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and legal documentation.

  • Lead and manage the Legal Department by formulating and implementing effective legal strategies, particularly in handling investment defaults, recovery processes, and related legal matters.

  • Represent the Bank before courts, tribunals, arbitration panels, and in key negotiations, ensuring the Bank’s interests are effectively safeguarded.

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with external legal counsels, law firms, regulatory authorities, and government agencies.

  • Monitor legal risks and ensure that the Bank’s policies and procedures remain compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide legal input in corporate transactions, policy formation, and strategic business initiatives to support the Bank’s operational and ethical goals.
