Requirements

Education
  • Diploma in Audiometry.

  • B.Sc/M.Sc can be considered as an added advantage.

Additional Requirements
  • Age at least 18 years
  • 0–1 year of experience in working on the same theme, preferably in a development and humanitarian context.

  • Be registered with a local association.

  • Previous I/NGO experience

  • Able to work in harsh conditions

  • Strong multidisciplinary teamwork approach

  • Communication skills in verbal and written Bangla.

  • Knowledge of disability and development issues in Bangladesh

  • Communication skills in both verbal and written Bangla are necessary.

  • Sensitized on issues related to child protection, protection of gender-based violence, etc.

  • Experienced in humanitarian contexts, preferably in the field of rehabilitation and inclusion.

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary context

  • Knowledge of Chittagonian/Rohingya language a strong asset

  • Knowledge of English and/or Burmese language;


Responsibilities & Context

Job Context:

HI is looking for an Audiometric Technician for its “Improving Disability Inclusion in the Rohingya and Host Communities Humanitarian Response” project funded by DFAT with Handicap International—Humanity & Inclusion.

Duration: As early as possible to 30 November 2025.

Line Manager: Senior Project Manager

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Audiometric Technician contributes to the implementation of the mandate and the 10-year strategy of Humanity & Inclusion in the country where s/he is based. The audiometric technician contributes to the implementation of his/her project, ensuring the optimal quality.

Responsibilities:

Mission 1: Operational implementation

Undertake assessment, hearing loss measurement, and delivery of hearing devices:

  • Collaborate closely with the rehabilitation officer and clinician to identify and assess individuals with disabilities requiring hearing services in HI’s implementation areas in Cox’s Bazar.
  • Conduct hearing assessments, ensure accurate measurement of hearing loss, and determine the appropriate hearing aid based on the specific needs of project participants.
  • Ensure referral to the medical service provider/doctors if the assessed beneficiaries have any sort of pathological condition or any relevant medicinal service requirements.
  • Organize and implement hearing service campaigns in the field, following the planned schedule.
  • Provide and fit suitable hearing devices, ensuring all technical checks are completed and beneficiaries, along with their caregivers or families, are informed about device usage, maintenance, repair, and replacement timelines.
  • Ensure and schedule follow-up services and taken necessary measures for replacement, repair, battery setup, provision, etc.
  • Ensure all services consider medical contraindications and safety precautions, adhering strictly to the "Do No Harm" principle.
  • Comply with policies and procedures established by the Rehabilitation Technical Unit (TU) and HI management regarding hearing service delivery.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential individual records for each beneficiary, including assessment results, service details, and follow-up actions.
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to monitor device use, assess impact, and identify any further needs or adjustments.
  • Monitor and assess partner or vendor performance related to hearing services and the usage of diagnostic hearing equipment.
  • Perform additional tasks related to hearing services as required by the project or assigned by HI management.

Procurement:

  • Support the planning and provide technical advice on the installation of hearing equipment in outreach camps.
  • Assist in and follow up on the procurement processes for hearing equipment and related materials in accordance with organizational procedures.
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals for hearing diagnostic tools, including specifications, purchasing requirements, and quality assurance of materials.

Coordination with Rehabilitation Team:

  • Maintain effective coordination with rehabilitation therapists and speech & language therapists to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with the rehabilitation team to support patient treatment, follow-up, and evaluation processes.
  • Refer project participants to appropriate services or higher-level care when advanced management is required

Reporting and capitalization:

  • Prepare and submit regular activity and progress reports in alignment with donor and organizational requirements, as requested by management and the technical unit.
  • Document and produce case stories to highlight outcomes, challenges, and impact, as per project and reporting needs.

Mission 2: Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Contribute to the program’s emergency preparedness initiatives, and in an emergency situation, adapt his/her working arrangements in order to contribute to an effective humanitarian response from HI.
  • Perform any other related activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
