  • Good command of the Chittagonian/ Rohingya language gets preference.

  • Ability to communicate in the Rohingya language (spoken Chittagong dialect)

  • Ability to cope with stress working in a camp environment.

  • Flexibility to perform other tasks and take initiative when required.

  • Cultural awareness/ sensitivity and empathy to the target population


Responsibilities & Context

Job Context

The Nutrition and Health Educator will be responsible for conducting health education, messaging, and counselling to caregivers and beneficiaries attending services in the OTP, TSFP and BSFP Centre. She will develop and disseminate a range of health and nutrition messages, including breastfeeding, hand washing, dietary diversity, ANC and PNC attendance, growth monitoring and promotion, and micro-nutrient supplementation, among others, geared at influencing the adoption of appropriate behaviour change around maternal infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN). In addition, the Nutrition and Health Educator will work closely with the nutrition team to identify children who are not responding to the treatment as required and structure particular messages to address identified challenges with child feeding and ensure that the caregivers are supported to ensure adequate care for their children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disseminate health education and counselling sessions at the site level on a range of topics around MIYCF and CMAM.

  • Contribute to the development of health and nutrition promotion messages to pass to the targeted community members, including review of the suitability of existing IEC materials within the response.

  • Conduct health, nutrition, hygiene and health education for caregivers of beneficiaries attending OTP/TSFP and BSFP services

  • Conduct training to community volunteers on key nutrition/health/hygiene messaging, community screening for malnutrition, case identification and referral.

  • Assist volunteers and counsellors in delivering messages on the preparation of supplementary foods provided to beneficiaries at the sites.

  • Motivate caregivers to make healthy changes and adopt recommended health and nutrition practices, including encouraging them to attend nutrition services within the nutrition sites and the community.

  • Assist the community volunteers in implementing promotional activities to document and plan activities every month

  • Enable a friendly collaborative working culture within the team, actively sharing information and knowledge to enable the team to ensure effective learning and sharing across the team

Data Management and Reporting

  • Coordinate with the Nutrition site Supervisor –to ensure accurate data collection and reporting, including the preparation and submission of daily, weekly, and monthly reports on Nutrition education and counselling sessions

  • Store and share beneficiary data with relevant project staff as needed to support coordinated care and program efficiency.

  • Keep up to date and requisitions on the demands of all IEC materials, form formats and register books.

  • Support digitalisation, database and reporting tools.

Perform Other Duties as Assigned

  • Actively participate in team meetings and collaborative case reviews with staff from all facility corners.

  • Provide feedback to the Nutrition site supervisor regarding any emerging needs, patterns, or gaps in care that require attention.

  • Support training and capacity-building efforts for the assigned supervisee volunteers.

  • Flexible to undertake other tasks as requested by the supervisor

  • Understand and demonstrate commitment to the importance of gender, disability and social inclusion issues.

  • Adhere to organizational policies, including confidentiality, and ensure compliance with donor guidelines. 

Special Note: 

  • Carry out any additional assignment per her/his position entrusted with the GK Management from time to time and mutually agreed upon  

  • Management may, at any point in time, modify this job description as it is deemed necessary in Gonoshasthaya Kendra’s interests in consultation with the incumbent      

  • Due to the emergency response nature of GK's work, hours of work may vary, and employees should be flexible in approaching hours of work in emergency conditions        

  • The employee must respect the timetable, terms, and conditions of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and should always be available to respond to an emergency
